The show, Aspects, that is now up in our gallery includes six of our great artists: Andrea Joki, Amber Kempthorn, Deb Lawrence, Dana Oldfather, Frank Oriti, and Marc Ross. For the next three weeks, this blog will show two of the artists. Aspects runs until October 6th so if you haven’t come in yet, we hope to see you soon!
Frank Oriti was born in 1983 and raised in the suburbs of Cleveland, Ohio. He earned his B.F.A. in Two-Dimensional Studies from Bowling Green State University in 2006 and returned to his hometown shortly after. For the next year and a half he worked at one of Cleveland’s steel mills and continued painting in his spare time. In the fall of 2008, Oriti headed to Ohio University where he began creating work inspired by his past experience in the blue-collar work force. He graduated with his M.F.A. in Painting in 2011. Recently, Oriti was the recipient of the 2013 Cleveland Arts Prize Emerging Artist Award. He currently lives and works in Cleveland, Ohio.
Marc Ross was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. He received his BFA from Ohio University, attended graduate school at the University of Chicago, and completed his MFA in painting at Kent State University. Ross then enrolled in a private commercial art school in Cleveland, Ohio to study mechanical/ technical drawing and airbrushing. He spent many years in the commercial art field as a designer, art director, illustrator/technical illustrator and then as a faux finish painter while continuing to develop his fine art painting. Ross was also an educator, serving as an adjunct art instructor at Cuyahoga Community College’s eastern and western campuses, the Columbus College of Art and Design’s Saturday program and The Ohio State University’s Foundation’s program. He returned to school to earn a degree in education from Ashland University and then taught art in a public high school for sixteen years. Ross spent twenty years experimenting and developing a method of painting that was recently featured in his solo exhibit at The Butler Institute of American Art. He has exhibited in numerous venues, including the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Klutznick National Jewish Museum, the Southern Ohio Museum, and various galleries in New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Baltimore, Washington D.C., Cleveland, Columbus, and Pittsburgh. Marc Ross resides in Columbus, Ohio and is currently represented by Bonfoey Gallery in Cleveland, Ohio and Art Access in Columbus, Ohio.
