A splined corner is rounding not only the outside corner of the frame, but giving a rounded interior on each corner. Below, we will show how our talented expert creates such a look.
First, the frame is assembled and the corner is trimmed and sanded to a softer, rounder corner. The inner curve must now be added with an extra piece of wood, which is glued into place and sanded down to match the rest of the frame. Once the new wood is fitted and the frame is seamless, it can be finished with stain, paint, or gilding depending on the client.
Splined corners are unique and give a special touch to any piece. Keep it in mind next time you’re looking for a new frame!
